Position Summary

Position is responsible for providing general support to the Long-Range Planning Division of the Department of Metropolitan Development on Comprehensive Planning activities as well as other studies and initiatives. Core responsibilities relate to community engagement, research and analysis, and assisting with the development of policy. Critical thinking and creative problem-solving are essential components of this position.

Position Responsibilities

Facilitate meetings and other community engagement activities.

Prepare meeting, presentation, and outreach materials.

Make arrangements, maintain calendars, and coordinate logistics for community engagement events and activities.

Research and communicate best practices and emerging trends relating to city planning and development.

Write policy white papers.

Conduct field evaluation.

Create maps, renderings, and other graphic representations.

Conduct analysis, including but not limited to demographic, market, and fiscal analysis.

Document various planning processes and activities.

Participate in and support interdisciplinary and cross-divisional action teams or projects undertaken by the Department.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. General knowledge of planning theory and ethics required. Empathy, active listening, and ability to understand and explain complex planning concepts to the general public required. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required. Commitment to professional growth and development required. Experience in research and data collection required. Excellent writing and public speaking skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign required. Proficiency in Trimble SketchUp preferred. Familiarity with U.S. Census Bureau products preferred. Ability to speak and write intermediate-level Spanish language desired.

Independent Judgment

While general duties and tasks will be performed under full supervision, the Planner-Long Range should be self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgement.

All rates are bi-weekly.
