Welcome to Westfield, Indiana: a quaint, family-friendly suburb.

Aerial of Westfield residential area

When I first moved to Indianapolis in 2014, I knew a friend of a friend who lived in Westfield. I remember thinking that it seemed so far away from the city and all the best restaurants, shops, and nightlife hotspots. But I was only 23 at the time. Back then, my life centered around being as close as I could be to Broad Ripple and downtown Indianapolis.

Looking back, I wish I would have moved to Westfield sooner, but I’m so thankful to be here now. For me, Westfield means family. It’s where I’ve found my home and where I want to continue building my life—for me and my son.

Westfield is a small city in Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis and neighboring cities like Carmel, Noblesville, and Zionsville. Our community became a town all the way back in 1849, but it was only in 2008 that Westfield officially graduated to a full-fledged city. With only about 40,000 people, we still maintain that charming small-town feel with all the benefits of big-city living.

If you get a chance to talk to people who live in Westfield, it’s pretty common to hear the phrase, “Westfield is the Best-field!” It’s a little cheesy, but we say it because the people who live here really feel like they’ve hit the jackpot. The city is growing super fast—always bringing new opportunities—and there’s nowhere else I’d rather raise my son.

Westfield is a great place to raise a family.

When I started looking to buy a new home, I knew I wanted to be in Westfield because I had several friends who love living here. I learned directly from them about Westfield and how it’s the perfect blend of affordable living, great schools, and fun things to do for the whole family.

But you don’t have to take our word for it! Over the years, Westfield has ranked as one of the Top Ten Cities to Raise a Family by Family Circle Magazine, Money Magazine, and WalletHub. Westfield is also one of Indiana’s safest cities and continues to be recognized as one of the best places to live in the country—for older families and young professionals alike.

If you’re looking for great school systems, Westfield has nationally recognized public schools and one of the top school districts in Indiana. Our award-winning schools are some of the fastest-growing in the state while maintaining a deep commitment to excellence for all students. We also have the Westfield Education Foundation to support our community. The non-profit offers college scholarships to local students, classroom grants for our teachers, and other financial support for educational opportunities.

Find your perfect neighborhood in Westfield.

Westfield is home to a wide variety of housing, including apartments in the city, sprawling suburb communities, and even rural homes away from the bustle. So, there are lots of options when it comes to finding a great neighborhood! For me, I fell in love with the Villages of Oak Manor, a suburb-style subdivision right in the heart of the city. Its convenient location puts me in walking distance from downtown Westfield and essentials like the grocery store and my daycare.

Landing in such a great neighborhood feels like pure luck. The house I bought had been on the market for almost two years and needed some cosmetic repairs, but it’s been a fantastic house. All the homes in my neighborhood are built by Fischer Homes, which has a great reputation and quality of work, and each building feels unique, while still looking uniform. My place is a one-story house that’s similar to a condo, so all lawn care and snow removal is taken care of—one of the neighborhood perks!

From the outside, the Villages of Oak Manor looks a lot like any other neighborhood in Westfield. Like many local subdivisions, we have a neighborhood pool, a fitness center, and beautiful (but similar-looking) houses. But what makes this neighborhood—and all of Westfield—great is the people!

Westfield residents make a neighborhood feel like a home.

Once I put the offer in, I was telling some of my coworkers at the Westfield Wine Vault that I was buying a house, and it turned out that almost every one of them lives in the same neighborhood! I was blown away by the coincidence, and since that moment, I’ve met so many wonderful neighbors who all helped me feel at home.

The day of closing, I received texts, social media posts, and in-person gifts from several of my new neighbors. So many people I had never met started adding me to Facebook simply because they lived in the neighborhood and wanted me to feel welcome. I still haven’t lived here long enough to enjoy the neighborhood in warm weather, but I’ve been told about the block parties, pool parties, and clubhouse events that I have to look forward to!

As a single mom, I really wanted to have a community of great people in my neighborhood, just like my parents did when I was growing up. And here in Westfield, I’ve found a neighborhood where I know I’ll be making life-long friends.

Westfield

Fun Facts

Westfield was originally founded in 1834 by Asa Bales, Ambrose Osborne, and Simon Moon, who were Quakers from Virginia and the Carolinas.

Every year, Westfield is home to the annual Indianapolis Colts Training Camp. Fans can come cheer on their favorite players as they prepare for the next football season!

Westfield officially became a city in 2008, transitioning from a town under their first mayor Andy Cook. Now, Westfield is one of the fastest growing cities in the region.

Westfield is home to delicious eateries and breweries.

As a single mom juggling three jobs and lots of hobbies, it’s safe to say that I love to stay busy—which is one reason I love Westfield! Not only are we minutes from Indianapolis, but Westfield has so many unique and exciting things to do in town.

If you’re looking to support awesome local entrepreneurs, Westfield is the perfect place for small businesses. There are lots to choose from, but here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Westfield Wine Vault: Talk about gorgeous! This wine bar lets you taste wines from around the world over some yummy snacks and desserts.
  2. Urban Vines Winery & Brewery: This local company is dedicated to small batch wines and beers. You can drink around the firepit or in heated outdoor igloos!
  3. Field Brewing: They’re a recent addition to the Westfield scene, offering delicious coffee, great food, and BEER!
  4. 1205 Distillery North: If you’re looking for cocktails, the distillery mixes a great drink while you enjoy live music and trivia nights.
  5. Titus Bakery: Two words. Fresh donuts.
  6. The Local Eatery & Pub: This restaurant specializes in farm-to-table amazingness with all-natural and organic ingredients.
  7. Nicey Treat: This delicious frozen treat shop is known for their signature Nicey ice pops and ice cream pies. All of their desserts are handmade and come in a variety of refreshing flavors!

Can you tell I like beer, wine, and all things food? And these are just a few of the spots around Westfield. If you’re less interested in wine tasting and pub nights than I am, there are plenty of other events and adventures just waiting to become your new family tradition. (I definitely have a lot more exploring to do!)

Get a taste of Westfield’s community culture.

Westfield is all about community events, hosting amazing family-friendly celebrations throughout the year. The city organizes a 4th of July fireworks festival, decorates the downtown with lights around the holidays, and even hosts Mother-Son and Daddy-Daughter Dances.

You can also travel a little outside the city to Conner Prairie or the Ruoff Music Center, both of which are great concert venues. In addition to concerts, Conner Prairie is an interactive history museum that offers activities for the whole family all year. It’s one of my son’s favorite places to explore, and we recommend taking a ride on their HUGE hot air balloon!

Into fitness? The Westfield Studio YMCA offers great studio classes and a Kids’ Night Out event, which gives parents a break while the kids enjoy pizza, fun activities, a craft, and a movie! They also just finished construction on their new aquatic center, which will offer swimming lessons starting this year.

And if you don’t live in Indy, you may not have heard of the Grand Junction project! The Grand Junction Park & Plaza is a large multi-use park spanning six acres in downtown Westfield. Inside the park, there is an ice rink, a playground, restaurants, an amphitheater, and more! The planning for this project first started 12 years ago, and they finally broke ground in November 2020. I’m very grateful to live in a city that continues to invest in creating more beautiful greenspaces and centers for the community to come together!

Westfield is perfect for nature lovers and active athletes.

Speaking of parks, Westfield is home to over 15 parks and playgrounds! On a nice day, you can usually find me and my son exploring the outdoors in the parks nearby our neighborhood. My favorite so far is the Cool Creek Park & Nature Center. Not only is the playground AMAZING, but the nature center is a fun and educational place for kids of all ages. The center is a great place to learn about the science behind the woodlands and wildlife around us, and they also have an awesome nature play area, which is hidden in the woods!

If you’re wanting to cool off on a hot day, you can head over to Quaker Park to enjoy their expansive splash pad playground, including an area just for kids under two-years-old. And after a big snowstorm, you can find the perfect sledding hill in Simon Moon Park. Their hill is so big that there’s plenty of space for everyone, even though people drive there from all over town.

Westfield is also connected to the Monon Trail, a paved pathway that’s perfect for a long bike ride or a walk with the dog. You can follow that trail for miles, all the way down to Carmel, Broad Ripple, or even downtown Indianapolis.

Play in one of the nation’s best youth sports facilities.

For the sports fans out there, Westfield is home to the Grand Park Sports Campus, one of the best youth sports complexes in America. Our sports campus is over 400 acres big, welcomes 2.5 million visitors a year, and brings over $1.5 billion to the city’s economy. It’s also the official home of the Indianapolis Colts Training Camp, which is hosted there each year.

They offer a full range of state-of-the-art outdoor facilities with something for everyone, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and field hockey. They also have an indoor facility with three full-size fields, locker rooms, and dining options!

Discover why Westfield is a great place to live.

When we say “Westfield is the Best-field,” we aren’t trying to brag or anything. For me, I just feel really thankful to live in a community as wonderful as Westfield. Like I said, I’ve always wanted to raise my son in a caring neighborhood like the one that I grew up in—somewhere with amazing people, great schools, and nearby parks and attractions.

I’m so glad I listened to my friends and moved up to Westfield. It’s a place where I can enjoy all the things I loved about living in Indianapolis—like good food and good drinks—while also being in the best place for my family.
