Alana moved from Cincinnati to Indianapolis to attend business school at Marian University. From her first visit to Indianapolis, she fell in love with the Indy region and hasn’t left since. Alana is now heavily involved in the Indy community and has worked with some of the most well-known organizations in the area, including her alma mater. When she isn’t writing new articles for Life in Indy, Alana and her husband love to spend time in the community, exploring new businesses, restaurants, and parks.
Welcome to Westfield, Indiana: a growing, family-friendly suburb.

If you haven’t heard, “Westfield is the Best-field!” This catchy phrase is pretty common around these parts. Sure, it’s a little cheesy, but we say it because people really feel like they’ve hit the jackpot here in Westfield!
Nestled west of the county seat, Westfield is a growing city in the heart of Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis and neighboring cities like Carmel, Noblesville, and Zionsville. Our community became a town all the way back in 1849, but it was only in 2008 that Westfield officially graduated to a full-fledged city.
Now, Westfield is consistently the #1 Fastest Growing City in Indiana—with a 30% increase in population since 2020. In fact, our family was one of nearly 4,000 others that moved to Westfield in 2024!
As an Indiana transplant, I spent my college and post-grad years living in Broad Ripple, knowing I wanted to settle down in one of Indy’s family-friendly suburbs. Before my husband and I got married, we started attending church in Westfield—and quickly realized this city could be our forever home. We got married here in 2023 and officially moved in just a year later!
After all, Westfield is a rapidly growing city that’s perfect for our growing family. From parks and trails to attractions and athletics, this is the place we are going to build our life together.
Westfield is a great place to raise a family.
There’s a reason that Westfield has become such a popular place to live. With stunning neighborhoods and exceptional schools, over 61,000 people are already enjoying the community, opportunity, and activity that comes with big-city life.
But you don’t have to take our word for it! Over the years, Westfield has ranked as one of the Top Ten Cities to Raise a Family by Family Circle Magazine, Money Magazine, and WalletHub. Westfield is also one of Indiana’s safest cities and continues to be recognized as one of the best places to live in the country—for established families and young professionals alike.
If you’re looking for great school systems, Westfield has nationally recognized public schools and one of the top school districts in Indiana. Our award-winning schools are some of the fastest growing in the state while maintaining a deep commitment to excellence for all students. We also have the Westfield Education Foundation to support our community. The non-profit offers college scholarships to local students, classroom grants for our teachers, and other financial support for educational opportunities.

Check out the new amenities coming to Westfield!
Fast-growing cities like Westfield are full of new and exciting developments! One of the projects under construction is the new Union Square at Grand Junction. This walkable neighborhood will help revitalize downtown Westfield, creating new apartments, restaurants, and retail space in the city.
Union Square will also overlook one of my favorite spots in Westfield—the Grand Junction Park & Plaza. This large multi-use park spans six acres in the heart of downtown Westfield, featuring a playground, an amphitheater, a creek, and more! The park is also within walking distance of local trails and all the good eats surrounding the downtown center.
And around the corner, the Grand Millennium Center is building a thriving cultural district at the corner of SR 32 and US 31. This 66-acre, $190 million development will include new corporate offices, residential homes, and even a hotel and convention center.
Construction is already complete on the first set of high-density housing, as well as our new family favorite: the Westfield Washington Library. They also broke ground on the state-of-the-art Westfield Medical Office Building and Westfield Ambulatory Surgery Center. These facilities will offer 60,000 sq. ft. of specialty medical services all in one place, increasing local access to high-quality care!
Westfield is home to wonderful eateries and breweries.
If you want to support small businesses, Westfield is the perfect place to shop local! There are lots to choose from, but here are a few of my favorites:
- West Fork Whiskey: Three Indiana natives turned their passion for whiskey into Westfield’s premier craft distillery! The food here is great, but the vibes are even better. They are also the current hosts of the Westfield Winter Market.
- B’s Bagels: Get a taste of authentic New York bagels right here in Westfield. B’s is the best breakfast spot with an endless offering of spreads and freshly made bagels, including all the classics and some locally inspired favs.
- Field Brewing: This is one of my favorite date night restaurants, as well as a great place to get together with friends. They offer award-winning beers and a curated menu of dishes featuring locally sourced ingredients.
- Urban Vines Winery & Brewery: A Westfield classic! This family-friendly winery and brewery is always packed on the weekends. They offer small-batch wines and beers that pack a punch, pairing them with live music to create the perfect relaxing atmosphere.
- Urban Apples Cidery & Event Center: Sitting on 25 acres just around the corner from Grand Park, Urban Apples is the only cidery in Hamilton County where the whole family can sit back, enjoy the scenery, and listen to some local bands.
- Rivet Coffee Bar & Roastery: Locally roasted brews and custom Italian sodas are what get you in the door. But the shop’s homey feel and pearl sugar Liege waffles are what keep you there for hours!
- Becky the Bakester: Becky’s is not your average bakery! They make an effort to craft unique sweet treats you can’t find anywhere else. And let me tell you, their gourmet marshmallows are to die for!
Get a taste of Westfield’s community culture.
Westfield is all about community events, hosting amazing family-friendly celebrations throughout the year. From Fourth of July fireworks to Movies in the Plaza, there’s no shortage of events designed to bring our community together. Westfield residents always show up and show out for these activities, which makes them a great way to meet your neighbors and enjoy the small-town feeling that comes with Hoosier living.
Into fitness? The new Ascension St. Vincent YMCA in Westfield has a state-of-the-art natatorium, basketball and pickleball gyms, community gathering spaces, areas for your littles to play, and so much more. This wellness center is the perfect place to prioritize your health, while finding new ways to connect with the community here in Westfield.
Speaking of community spaces, Westfield is home to over 15 parks and playgrounds, including the Cool Creek Park & Nature Center. The center is a great place for kids of all ages to learn about the science behind our local wildlife, when they’re not having fun on the park’s slides and swings.
Westfield is also right on the Monon Trail, a paved pathway that’s perfect for a long bike ride, family walks, or a jog with the dog. You can follow that trail for miles, all the way down to Carmel, Broad Ripple, or even downtown Indianapolis. We love to hop on the Monon on a warm, summer evening and watch the sunset from the bridge over IN-32!

Grand Park is a nationally renowned sports venue.
For the sports fans out there, Westfield is home to the Grand Park Sports Campus, one of the best youth sports complexes in America. Our sports campus is over 400 acres big, welcomes over 5.5 million visitors a year, and brings over $1.5 billion to the city’s economy. It’s also the official home of the Indianapolis Colts Training Camp, which is hosted there each year!
They offer a full range of state-of-the-art outdoor facilities with something for everyone, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and field hockey. They also have an indoor facility with three full-size fields, locker rooms, and dining options!
As part of the city’s ongoing growth, Westfield also announced their master plan for the upcoming Grand Park District! Over the next decade, they will add a 10,000-seat Champion Stadium, a full-service hotel and conference center, new family entertainment options, and a plethora of other mixed-use developments. The goal is to truly transform Westfield into a hot spot for sports tourism!

Discover why Westfield is a great place to live.
When we say, “Westfield is the Best-field,” we aren’t trying to brag or anything. But a community as wonderful as Westfield is one of Indy’s greatest hidden gems.
Our city prioritizes growth and opportunity, while still fostering a family-centered community. As a foodie, I love that the restaurant scene here offers a variety of different flavors and cuisines. We’re also on the cusp of being the nation’s next big sports hub, making Westfield the perfect place to share your passion for sports, fitness, and wellness.
I chose to live in Westfield because I knew this city was on the verge of a big boom. Now, over the next decade, we’ll get to watch our beloved home grow and blossom alongside our family. My husband and I are excited to raise our son in a city where he’ll receive an amazing education, get to play his favorite sports, and spend time exploring the great outdoors.
