Nightlife in the Bottleworks District 

Just off Massachusetts Avenue, there’s a new, walkable cultural hub known as the Bottleworks District. This downtown locale is a growing hotspot with award-winning restaurants, fun things to do, and a bustling food hall that offers a little something for everyone.

1. Sundry & Vice

Sundry & Vice is an upscale cocktail bar located inside the Bottleworks Hotel—the #1 Boutique Hotel according to USA Today. But you don’t have to book a room to indulge in a cocktail! Simply waltz into the hotel lobby to enjoy this bar’s unique moody atmosphere and house-made libations. Some nights they even invite DJs into the hotel space for a little late-night dancing.

2. Pins Mechanical Company

Looking for something more active? Pins Mechanical is made for people who want more fun in their nightlife. Their bar offers a variety of fun cocktails and drinks on tap, which you can enjoy while playing old-school games with friends. Pins is best known for their duckpin bowling, but they also have pinball, bocce ball, foosball, giant jenga, and other party games that are even more fun after the sun goes down.

3. Living Room Theaters – Closes at 11 PM

Never underestimate the power of a good movie. At Living Room Theaters, you can elevate your late-night screening into a truly show-stopping experience with food and drinks you can enjoy as you watch. They have a full bar, complete with cocktails, which makes for a perfect, cozy date night experience.

Nightlife in Fountain Square

Fountain Square is one of Indianapolis’ most popular neighborhoods for art, music, design, and culture. A hub for local hipsters and creators, this nightlife destination has a buzzing First Friday scene and lots of hidden hot spots—if you know where to look. Like Mass Ave, Fountain Square is also very LGBTQ-friendly, with a strong burlesque community over at White Rabbit Cabaret.

1. The HI-FI

Easily one of the city’s hottest music venues, HI-FI is a place unconstrained by convention. They host national names, underground bands, and local favorites alike, welcoming all genres from folk to rock to EDM. No matter your taste, their space delivers exactly what you want from live music: an intimate setting close to the stage with just enough crowd to get lost in the sound. Be aware that General Admission tickets are standing room-only, and choose your shoes accordingly.

2. Fountain Square Theatre – Swing Dance Nights

This historic building is the heart of Fountain Square—with multiple nightlife destinations all rolled into one. Starting with the theater itself, this venue space is typically reserved for weddings and private events. But twice a month on Friday evenings, they open their doors for Swing Dance Nights from 7:30–11:00 PM, welcoming dancers of all levels to its iconic ballroom floor. Come early for a quick, $3 dance lesson and dance the night away!

3. Atomic Bowl

Located inside the Fountain Square Theatre Building, Atomic Bowl is a retro duckpin bowling alley. This miniature version of the classic game is perfect for a fun night of low-stakes competition, which is especially great if you’ve got kids to consider. They also offer a family-friendly menu stacked with classic American food. Just make sure to reserve your lane ahead of time because space is limited!

4. The Rooftop Garden – Open Seasonally

The only thing Hoosiers love more than patio seating is a rooftop bar! As soon as the weather gets warm, The Rooftop Garden above the Fountain Square Theatre opens for business. This open-air rooftop bar offers a lively, relaxed environment to enjoy beer, wine, cocktails, and light snacks while taking in a stunning view of the Indianapolis skyline.

5. Imbibe Bar & Game Room

A stylish cocktail lounge inspired by the Gatsby era, Imbibe pairs craft cocktails and local draft beers with your favorite classic bar games. Simply pick your poison and settle in for a night of playful competition in billiards, darts, ping-pong, shuffleboard, and more. 6. The Commodore

7. The Inferno Room

The Inferno Room brings a taste of the tropics right here to Indiana. This immersive tiki bar is known for its elaborate cocktails, island-inspired décor, and creative interpretations on classic bar bites. With dark-tinted windows and vibrant flavors, The Inferno Room offers a truly unique atmosphere for a nightlife getaway.

8. World Famous Hotboys

One of the few eateries on this list, Hotboys is world famous for good reason. Their California twist on Nashville Hot Chicken packs a punch of flavor, served as spicy as you like. Open until 2 AM on weekends, they’ve become a late-night favorite in Fountain Square, especially when they bring live music to the table.

9. Tappers Arcade Bar

Tappers is a nightlife destination for the nerds, the gamers, and the nostalgia hunters. With one of the largest arcades in Indiana, Tappers offers retro favorites like Galaga and Donkey Kong, as well as modern classics like Enter the Gungeon. Arcade games are free-to-play with purchase of a beer or cocktail, and pinball is no more than a dollar per play.

10. Paradox Lounge

Paradox Lounge is an upscale bar serving top-shelf cocktails, globally-inspired dishes, and tobacco-free hookah. But if you want more than dinner and a show, these are a few of the most popular late-night spots across the Indianapolis region.

1. 3UP Rooftop Lounge

Located in the heart of the Carmel Arts & Design District, 3UP is one of Indy’s most popular rooftop destinations. Inside the elegant Hotel Carmichael in Carmel, you’ll find an elegant piano lounge made for savoring a song and a glass by the fire.
